Most of the Africans in Lowell came as immigrants to look for a better life. some of them came to get a better education and go back in their countries. This doesn't stop Africans to live their culture and follow their traditions. They may come from different countries but they kind of have the same values, tradition, culture, foods and religions. Some Africans are muslims, some other are christians but they live together as a family. Africans are also mostly involved in any type of Hip Hop, R&b and Zumba dance and music. To reunite together, the Africans of Lowell organize each year, a festival called the African festival of Lowell to share with people their cultures, their foods, clothes, dances and music to others.
In 2000, a native of Cameroon, Fru Nkimbeng helped found the Lowell African Festival and served as president of the African cultural Association for six years. (Courtesy of Adrien Bisson.)
